Since 1976, Camp Northwood & The Northwood Center have been providing quality programming to a coed population of 140 socially immature, learning challenged and high functioning autistic children in need of structure and individualized attention. It is our 2:1 camper/counselor ratio, non-competitive recreational programming and intentional focus on social skill development that enables our students to experience acceptance in a thriving socially therapeutic camp community. Furthermore, Northwood’s academic support program enables campers to maintain critical skills levels over the course of their summer.
Camp Northwood provides a fun-filled, socially therapeutic residential summer camp experience for socially immature, learning challenged and high functioning autistic spectrum campers in need of greater supervision and social support than available in a more traditional camp setting.
Co-ed campers (ages 8-18) enjoy over 30 structured, noncompetitive activities promoting independence, self-esteem and mastery. Our 2:1 camper to counselor ratio ensures individualized instruction and reinforcement of age-appropriate social skills. Campers have a wealth of opportunities to succeed and shine.
